Apparently there is a strong hereditary factor that predisposes to both types of diabetes. However, as with many hereditary factors the presence of environmental factors may provide adequate conditions for this bias manifests itself or on the contrary can help prevent the condition occurring. Obesity and excessive consumption of fats are precipitating factors in type II diabetes.
