Under reconstructive surgery is understood in the broadest sense, the use of an operation to restore form and function of the body. Reconstructive surgery or plastic surgery, is derived from the Greek word “Plastikos” which means to shape, improve or restore. Reconstructive surgery will repair the function and the appearance of a particular body part. There are three main reasons why reconstructive surgery may be appropriate: medical reasons, due to a birth defect or deformities that may inhibit activities of daily living, traumatic injuries and accidents.
